In Rainbows…

October 14th, 2007

Well, after blagging about In Rainbows in the previous post, I guess is only fair I let you know if I liked the album…. Well, it kicks some serious ass in my humble opinion. It feels a bit short but is radiohead doing their thing and doing it very well.

In Rainbows

Rumour has it that the album was downloaded about 1.2 million times on launch day, but the band or its management haven’t provided an official word on the numbers.

Also there has been a bit of backlash about the band intending to release the album later (jan or feb 08) through the regular channels (CD). It’s a bit silly, since it was known before the In Rainbows release that the band is actually looking to sign with a record company for the distribution of the album (at least I knew). Still, this -experiment- will provide the band with the upper hand when it comes to discussing the terms of a contract with any given record company. Maybe they were not sticking the finger to the record companies, but they have still changed the game with this move.

Anyhow, going back to a musical comment, if you have enjoyed Radiohead previous offerings you will definetly enjoy In Rainbows. As with all the post Kid A albums, it shows distance from the usual pop-rock that floods the market these days.

When I get a new album, many times I get obsessed with a song or two for the first few weeks. In this case is Jigsaw Falling into Place: it kicks some ass, but so does the rest of the album. I’ll be trying to follow the reactions a few days after the release. More balance views should start popping up and who knows maybe a change or two in the way the big record companies acknowledge their costumers.

It should prove to be interesting …
